When Hair Goes Beyond Vanity
Lord knows
we all have our challenges and triumphs. If this road to
'finding the new normal' has reminded me of anything, it is that
hair goes beyond vanity. Where I come from, if someone is
feeling a bit blue or needs a shift in perspective, the first
thing someone tells you is to go fix your hair and put on some
lipstick. Well, lipstick isn't always an option with masks. We'd look like we were going to a
Halloween Party, with a lot of the moisturizing formulas or
glosses that would go all over the place inside a mask (mainly
because not all transfer resistant formulas are considered
'clean' beauty.
Some of us (myself included), got used to more natural looks.
But, one of the areas that really allowed us to get creative and
express ourselves - - - has been our hair. It poetically frames our
face and crowns our head - and with the right color and coiffe,
a man or a woman can feel confident and wonderful. I've
personally experienced this topic because of the hair journey
that I went through. As a woman with lots of hair, who
knows how to style my hair, you would not have noticed much of a
change, months ago. Why? Well, I'd wear the tallest
platform boots or heels, hats, hair cosmetics or hair accessories, to allow me
to mask areas of my hair that were concerning me. I
totally rebooted my hair and scalp skincare routine from zero
and designed from my heart. I wanted something that would
be great for more than just my hair type to use. It is
why, when you see someone who has gorgeous hair and they are
totally beaming with such confidence and joy - don't "assume"
they are vain or all about their appearance. Assuming is a
toxic habit. You don't know what that person has going on
Psychologically or with their home life. It is really easy
to judge and them, having their hair dolled up that day, may be
their only way to shine. I look at hair very differently
since I had a positive journey from where I was, 6 or 7 months
ago. My hair was fugly and it did take its toll on how I
felt about my self esteem or my confidence. So if this
blog post can accomplish at least one thing - let it accomplish
a shift in your perspective the next time you see a gorgeous
head of hair. Don't be shy and give a person a compliment
- go ahead, make their day;
